Equipment Category filters the unit list below
Auto-hides liquid sizes with total press. loss ≥ 40 psi or velocity < 150 FPM, and suction sizes with friction loss ≥ 10 psi or velocity < 300 FPM.

Liquid Line Rules

  • Minimize pressure drop — 40 psi is the max PD (liquid can flash to gas above 40 psi).
  • Minimize velocity — 500 FPM recommended max (300 FPM for residential).
  • Total liquid line pressure drop cannot exceed 50 psi.

Suction Line Rules

  • Minimize pressure drop — 5 psi recommended max (≈1% capacity loss per psi above 5).
  • Velocity must be above 1,000 FPM for vertical rises, 800 FPM for horizontal runs.
  • Minimize velocity for noise — less than 3,000 FPM ideal, up to 3,500 FPM acceptable if friction stays ≤5 psi.
